Lucky's Bar and Grille - Waunakee
Our Recent History
Lucky’s Bar & Grille was established in 2004 in Madison, WI. Prior to this time the Bar was known as the Oakcrest Tavern. When the Oakcrest Tavern was in bankruptcy, Rod Ripley and some friends saw it as a great opportunity to purchase a Bar close to Camp Randall and the Kohl Center in the heart of the University of Wisconsin’s Sport Campus. After much debate over a good name, the partners settled on Lucky’s. Since the term lucky is often associated with a four-leafed clover, a clover became part of the trademark and logo but in order to tie the name to the Badgers, the clover is Badger red! With Rod Ripley being an ex-Badger Basketball player and avid Badger fan, the tie to the Badgers was a natural fit. In October 2009, the other owners were looking to sell the business and the opportunity arose for Rod to purchase Lucky’s as principal owner with several small investors.
In May of 2012, Rod saw an opportunity to expand Lucky’s into Waunakee with the purchase of bank-owned Sweet Sophie’s. Rod introduced the investment opportunity to numerous friends and business contacts focusing on Waunakee investors. Lucky's Waunakee is currently owned 76% by Waunakee residents.
The goal of Lucky’s Bar & Grille - Waunakee will be creating a premier sports bar with a focus on great craft beer. To show our alliance with the Waunakee Warrior sports teams, the Lucky's logo will feature Waunakee purple for the banner and clover. We have 33 flat screen TVs and the ability to get 8 different Direct TV stations on any TV. We have 24 tap beer lines featuring 21 craft and import beers with more than half brewed in Wisconsin. The biggest room in the building used to be a banquet room and now is the Warrior Room adorned with dozens of jerseys and letter jackets and a large number of classy sports pictures taken by professional photographer Julie Fix. The front part of the Warrior Room features our game room with 2 purple-felt pool tables, a 22 foot-long shuffleboard table, 2 dart boards and 2 arcade games. We have 2 semi-private rooms for events - the Warrior Room Back 40 and the Badger Den. The Warrior Room Back 40 is behind the dining room and can be set-up for cocktail parties or sit down parties/meetings with seating up to 100 and more room for a cocktail party. The Badger Den features Badger jerseys and memorabilia with a wall dedicated to Waunakee Warriors who played for the Badgers, our "Warriors in Red" wall of fame. The Badger Den can be used for anything from a business meeting to a bithday party. The Badger Den seats up to 60 but could fit more with tables removed for a cocktail party.
Outside the building we added a bike rack for family adventures on 2 wheels. We also expanded the patio at the front of the building and will be adding additional patio space and 2 sand volleyball courts in April for spring and summer volleyball leagues.
